This project is located on a street in Lisbon’s historic center that goes by the charming name of Travessa do Fala Só (or “speak alone alley”). The street connects the equally charming Praça da Alegria to Calçada da Glória, a hillside along which a funicular runs.
The apartment is in an industrial building that was renovated according to a design by architect Samuel de Carvalho. It has two bedrooms, and all the living areas face the rear of the block, where other historic buildings that have already been renovated stand.
The apartment’s character is not defined by the industrial architecture of Travessa, but rather by the view offered by these buildings at the heart of a block featuring typically Portuguese architecture. Natural light streams in from the rear, and the open-plan living spaces blend elements from well-known designers, anonymous pieces, and historical objects.
One highlight is the Crane floor lamp by Lislei Design, Porto. Another is the collection of organic forms, centred around the R. Bobois’ Bubble sofa.
