In the small city of Aalborg, northern Denmark, the programme of this international competition called for designs comprising a spa and public swimming pools within the same building. Huge suspended concrete boxes shelter the spa’s pools on the second floor. The columns bearing those pool-boxes come out of the public pools downstairs and were arranged somewhat randomly to create a huge, infrastructural pillared hall. In the spa, each concrete box matches a different kind of bath (Japanese bath, Scotch shower, chromatic pool, etc.) and is interspersed with living rooms with wooden decks.
