Other Territories is a suite of ephemeral interventions proposed for the “informal stilts” in a hilly neighborhood in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

The interventions that integrate this exhibition were chosen through the Call for Ideas OT, of public and international character. Hundreds of professionals and students from different areas presented ideas of different characters, expanding the potential of each stilt, experimenting with and testing the innumerable possibilities of the site, but also considering budget limits and the feasibility of ideas. The Call had a great national and international repercussion: there were 297 registrations from 36 countries and 101 proposals delivered. The jury selected seven proposals and awarded two honorable mentions.

Subsequently, the interventions will be organized in the form of a Cultural Festival (Phase 2), when the selected proposals will possibly be built.

In addition to a free visitation to the Buritis neighborhood, Other Territories intends to be a space for debates around issues related to the city and its inhabitants, exploring interfaces between architecture, visual arts, lighting and urban landscape; and problematizing the management of the city, the infrastructural and architectural liabilities, the urban voids and the real estate market.
In this sense, Viaduto das Artes (Arts Overpass) — the venue of the exhibition — is in full harmony with the Other Territories project: both seek to activate idle spaces by providing them new meanings and new uses, and incorporating them into alternative social dynamics.

OT was self-initiated by Vazio S/A, Coletivo Aurora and curator Eduardo de Jesus. More information is available at OT website.
