The new wing of MALI museum in Lima (Peru) intends to inaugurate a new synergy between the Exposición Park, the MALI and the city, and will have as its center a demoted stage-audience where art will be announced as an open cultural platform.

The proposal promotes a basic architectural element – the staircase – as an inviting form, able to provide identity to the new building and searching, in the past, a language that points to the new future of the complex. Announced circumspectly but also unmistakable in the square, the staircase also works as cover of the “hypostyle hall” – the entrance hall structured by a mesh of metal columns.

The core of the building is the new public space (the stage-audience) in a sunken level that works as venue of events, performances and exhibitions. In addition, the proposal suggests requalification guidelines for the Parque de la Exposición, where the museum is found.
