This is our first project in Porto, Portugal. Casa Pampulha

New project online! Casa Pampulha is a house designed by architect Zanine Caldas in the 1970s and converted into an art collection gallery. Apparently an architect of neo-colonial houses with no identity, Zanine was actually an author who knew how to update the language of Brazilian colonialism with features typical of modernist architecture and the traditional […]

  8. Void possibilities: New York atypical lots

New York City is known for its grid. But in fact, narrow, triangular or very small lots can be found throughout the city. These lots are produced by diagonal streets, easements, and historical conditions before the grid. The lots, due to their atypical dimensions and area, as well as current zoning regulations, remain unused. Irregular […]

  16. Mississipi – a shifting landscape

Had it been the view that effectvly shaped and changed urban rivers all over the world, we would be living in cities of linear parks and not in cities of covered rivers: Map of the ancient courses of the Mississipi river meander belt by Harold Fisk, 1944. The drawing was made when another view of […]

    A rare typology

In a country of cities explicitly dominated and regulated by the private realm, architecture critic Abílio Guerra makes a sharp note on three of the very few open blocks of São Paulo, where public and private space don’t confront each other, but instead work in symbiosis: Quadra Aberta: uma tipologia urbana rara em São Paulo […]
