On December 2, 2009 at 6.30 p.m., architect Carlos Teixeira will launch his book O Condomínio Absoluto (The Ultimate Skyscraper), published by C/Arte, at Livraria da Vila on Rua Fradique Countinho 915, São Paulo. In parallel with his work in his own office – Vazio S/A, Carlos has already written two books and he has also exhibited his projects in Venice Biennial (2004), São Paulo Biennial, the RIBA etc.
They are two books joint together. The first one, illustrated by the Portuguese illustrator Vasco Mourão and defined by its author as a fantastic epic, narrates the history of the São Paulo Tower project; a would-be tallest building in the world. The Dravidian-style mega tower was proposed in 1999 by The Beattles former guru, Yogi Maharishi, in partnership with a local businessman, Mario Garnero. The idea was not taken ahead due to the lack of funds.
According to Carlos, “São Paulo Tower would be 85 times taller than the tallest building in the world”. In the first book, Carlos describes how the building would end up, swallowing the whole city and embracing its main buildings such as Copan, Hotel Unique, Oca, and Masp.
The second book presents photos of the area of 70 blocks of buildings that would be knocked down if the tower was built. It also reproduces countless articles about the topic and presents what would have been the chronology of starting building it on May 12, 1999, at the time of the launching of Maharishi São Paulo Tower.
O Condomínio Absoluto can be purchased in bookshops all around Brazil for R$ 28.
